In our “Bel Paese,” many manufacturers dedicated to the art of hat-making have a family-centered foundation, and when we speak of family, we often tell stories of women.
At Inverni, three women stand out: Roberta Cirri and her daughters Maria and Paola, who steer the company in the areas of creative design and commercial planning. It’s a business with an entirely feminine heart—a remarkable example in the history of Florence’s straw hat tradition that demonstrates how, in the past, women have carved out a distinct professional identity, both in weaving straw and in managing their own enterprises.
This is the case with Inverni, a historic hat-making company founded in Poggio a Caiano in 1892. Later acquired by the Cirri family, who brought valuable experience in knitwear, “Inverni Firenze 1892” combines the artisanal tradition of hat-making with generations of expertise in textile yarns.
Its style is minimalist, refined, and delicate, achieved through constant experimentation with materials and natural fibers. Cozy winters are guaranteed with hats made from fine felt and garments crafted exclusively from luxurious wools like cashmere and alpaca from South America. For summer, the collection includes straw and Panama hats paired with accessories in silk, linen, and cotton.
Exquisite quality and exclusive products have allowed Inverni creations to spread throughout Europe’s leading markets, consistently featured in the most prestigious department stores in fashion capitals, such as Liberty in London and Bon Marché in Paris, extending even to the Far East.
Inverni’s rich historical legacy is preserved through the practical and vibrant spirit of Roberta Cirri, reflected within the company itself. This legacy is evoked by the romantic presence of old sample trunks, antique straw braids hanging on the walls, and shelves filled with wooden molds for shaping hats—reminders of the importance of the “one-of-a-kind” piece. These echoes of the past serve as a confident guide toward the future.
